Dear Friends, Family, and Strangers who found this project,
This map’s context: As I planned this transition from Instagram to a platform that could support an email newsletter setup, my brother cautioned me, saying that if I email to a massive BCC/CC list (which stands for Blind & Carbon Copy), the message would likely be filtered out to junk folders. As I researched alternate platforms, this idea of carbon copy lingered.
The email “CC” is a linguistic skeuomorph, meaning it references the older analog process of carbon copying: writing on a doubled paper that creates a simultaneous stroke-for-stroke carbon print on the second sheet when the first is written upon. Inspired by this, I hand carbon-copied fifty maps, and the first fifty subscribers to the Substack will each receive one of the copies by hand, mail, or pickup. As I move to this way of sharing the maps, here are my manual carbon copies alongside my digital ones.
I am incredibly grateful that you have signed up to receive these emails. Thank you for your support and participation in this project. It means a lot to me.

Behind the Scenes: I could create two maps at a time (the first is bold, the second copy has more variety in line-weight, and a third was too faint to discern), so I did the process 25 times. I used carbon transfer paper on drawing paper to create a kind of double-stacked-oreo of positive and negative maps. I tweaked little things as I went, accidentally and intentionally removing and adding things, or altering the icons, etc.
Extra notes:
Just a reminder, the numbers on the banner are the opening (left) and closing (right) time of each show.
So far I am loving being able to crop my photos, write all the words I want, and include hyperlinks on this platform. However, I usually revise and edit those insta posts many times to catch errors, and this platform may not be as forgiving. I appreciate your patience and always appreciate you letting me know about any errors you catch.
You are always welcome to share this wherever you see fit as you long as attribution goes with it. You can still tag @lauren_farkas_makings on insta.
Cheers,
Farkas
