I love this so much. My next research project is on this material actually and it's amazing to see it used so creatively.

AH! I should have asked you about it! I was trying to think who I knew who could have some insider knowledge. Any info you wanna share about it/why its peeling up/how the city is thinking about it?

Opp so I actually just got pulled off this project literally today to work on something else, but I was learning about this stuff as a part of the TDOT quick build projects. Whenever the city/TDOT finds an intersection or a piece of roadway that is hostile to pedestrians or cyclists, they will often times do these quick build projects which are not meant to be permanent, but are low cost, do not require a lot of approval or community feedback, and can be a band aid on the issue. Unfortunately, a lot of these projects can turn into long term projects as was the case with Henley Street Bridge as they don't have the funding to do soemthing more permanent. You will also notice a lot of the plastic pillons are coming off from either being hit by cars or from weak glue. So, yeah, in summary this is one of the TDOT approved materials for short term quick build projects in the case of the bike lane you pulled it from.

Fascinating! I hadn't realized it was specifically a quick build thing, but it absolutely makes sense for the places I have seen it. Thank you for sharing what you know! It's surprising to me that it's lower cost than the other paint materials.

And yes, of course the shredded and beaten up pillons...haha alas.

I sent your piece to my advisor and he loved it. We agree it is such a shame to see so much litter and for the reflective strips to be coming off...
